Fresh Salt at the Saybrook Point Inn has great drinks, and a beautiful view. The food, IMHO is to be skipped. »
Saybrook Point Inn & Spa? I've only had drinks outside in nicer weather, but it overlooks the marina and am sure there must be a bar where you can sit inside and enjoy the view. Anyone know for sure? http://www.saybrook.com/Dining »
By all means not an authority, but I have enjoyed whole bellies at several dozen places throughout New England. Oddly, Glenwood in Hamden & Harry's in Colchester rank about the best I've found for fried whole bellies, along with Buttonwood Fish & Chips... »
Heard that the Old Lyme Inn has finally reopened. True? Have any hounds tried the new incarnation. Hope it is back to the same high standard it was in the 70's when the Atwood's were the innkeepers. It was super back then, Ken and Diane Atwood ran a fi... »
Thanks Bill's is my favorite. Thing making L&E in Chester? »
Several great restaurants: Cafe Routier, Elizabeth's, Liv's Oyster Bar but fun ?? maybe http://www.billsseafood.com/bands.htm, or Oliver's or Griswold Inn in Essex when there's music »
Al Forno in Old Saybrook is certainly a down-to-earth family Italian restaurant, and it has penne vodka on the menu as well. I don't recall taking portions home very often, but I do remember always being quite full when I left. »
Driving past the Old Lyme Bee & Thistle Inn, I noticed that they have re-opened after their hiatus (for remodeling?). »
Monkey Farm in Old Saybrook is missing from your list. It's a classic roadhouse with surprisingly good bar food. Cash only. Sycamore Drive-in in Bethel is iconic, especially if you're a car guy. Go there for flattened burgers and house-made root beer. »
There's a brand sold at the WIndham IGA called 'Reuben' that is very good. It's not salty and hase very good flavor to it. It's a Tyson foods product, so it may not pass the standards of the indie/local foods crowd. I've cooked a couple in the last yea... »
Thanks - I never got there when it was Ruffinos - but we always would go several times in the winter when it was Stella Doros - odd- no one locally ever was clear on the point that it still had same owners, etc... nothing in shoreline papers I saw........ »
We were there Saturday night. There's a new menu which is significantly shorter. My first thought was that Robert Irvine of Restaurant Impossible had paid them a visit since his predictable fix of almost every restaurant he visits usually includes shor... »
It has always been the same owner and chef. They changed the name as an attempt to reinvent the restaurant with basically the same menu. Added a few "bar" menu items and lowered some prices. But, it remained the same food. »
Drove by what had been turned into Ruffino's from Stella Doro last March Now there is a Stella Doro sign back up? I am not sure I will have a chance to swing in there to check it out again before the end of March- so, if anyone gets a chance to swing b... »
