Mark Josephson joined Outside.in as CEO in April 2008 and has been building new media businesses since 1995.
Most recently, Mark was President and CMO of Seevast Corp, which builds and operates proprietary and publisher ad networks.
Before that, he worked at About.com as General Manager in charge of the creation and growth of the About.com consumer service and later as Executive Vice President of Marketing & Business Development with responsibility for customer acquisition, marketing and distribution for About, Inc.'s three operating divisions: About.com, Sprinks, and About Web Services.
Mark was a founding member of Cone Interactive's new media practice in the late '90s, where he managed marketing and communications for some of the earliest internet media businesses, including About.com and iVillage.com.
Steven Johnson is the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Outside.in. He is the author of six bestselling books about science, technology, and culture, including The Ghost Map, The Invention of Air, and most recently, Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation.
He also co-founded two influential web sites in the 1990s, the pioneering online magazine FEED, and the Webby-Award winning community site Plastic.com.
He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three sons.
Rob drives the technology platform at the heart of Outside.in. Rob joined Outside.in in June 2009 to lead the development of highly scalable search technologies to massively scale the delivery of hyperlocal news and information.
Prior to joining Outside.in, Rob was the Director of Application Development at Digital Railroad where he spent the majority of his 'hands on' time innovating in the area of image search. Rob has previously led application development at HUGE and Intrasphere where he was responsible for the strategic direction of technology for clients such as NBC and Pfizer. A veteran of the New York City start-up scene, Rob developed his early technology and coding expertise in scalable web based architectures at BlueTip and IconNicholson.
Rob holds a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Rob is an active member of the nautical community around the port town of Northport, Long Island and holds a current USCG OUPV captain’s license.
Rob joined Outside.in in June 2010.
Prior to joining Outside.in, Rob was a Senior Director at Microsoft, in the Online Services, and led the business development teams for Local, Mobile, Finance, Social Networking and News. During his tenure at Microsoft, he focused on incubating and launching new businesses across Search, Advertising and MSN. He was responsible for launching successful businesses in local search & advertising, video & mobile ad syndication, and local video news. In addition, he led strategic partnerships with companies like Yahoo, NBC, Hearst, AT&T, Verizon, IAC, AP and aQuantive. Before Microsoft, Rob led technology business development efforts at Agilent Technologies and Greenlight.com and was an investment banker at Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse First Boston.
Rob holds an MBA from Duke University and a Bachelors in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.
Camilla joined Outside.in to expand its growing partnership network. She brings years of experience at various media companies where she has developed and executed on new business opportunities for online growth.
Prior to joining Outside.in, Camilla was a Sr Director of Strategic Development for MTV Networks, including the College Media Network, where she was responsible for leading the efforts on the strategy and rollout of a set of local entertainment sites for college students and executing strategic partnership deals. Prior to MTVN, Camilla served in a sales and business development role at IAC / Ask.com focusing on search syndication and distribution, and in a strategy and new business development role for BMG / Columbia House.
Camilla has her MBA from The Wharton School and her bachelor's from U.C. Berkeley. When not working, she can often be found wherever there is good live music and great food around the city.
Jared joined Outside.in in 2007. When the company began to focus on its relationships with local bloggers and mainstream media publishers, Jared helped build the network he now leads. In doing so, he helps Outside.in connect thousands of bloggers to hundreds of publishers, bringing hyperlocal news and information to millions of consumers across the country.
In a previous life, Jared was a theater artist who worked at a variety of theaters including Steppenwolf, Northlight, The Paper Mill Playhouse, and The St. Louis Muny, America's oldest and largest outdoor theater, where he was the Associate Producer.
Having graduated from The University of Chicago with a degree in Comparative Literature, Jared's always on the hunt for opportunities to read and speak Romance languages.
Aly Valli joined Outside.in to lead design and development of the best neighborhood news and information platform and consumer experience in the industry.
Most recently, Aly was Lead Program Manager at Microsoft Startup Labs in Cambridge, MA incubating real-time productivity experiences. Before that, he helped launch leading how-to video start-up Howcast.com as Director of Consumer and Trade Marketing in New York City. Aly spent 5 years at Microsoft as a program manager and product planner building consumer and advertiser offerings for Windows Live, MSN and Microsoft Advertising.
Aly holds degrees in political economy from the University of Cambridge and the University of Waterloo.
